The Heart Behind Nurturing Narratives

Portrait of author Stephanie Maurer smiling in a blue top.

I’m a wife, a mother of three grown children, a grandmother, and an author with a heart for children and a deep desire to see them know Jesus from an early age.

My heart has always been to disciple children — to teach them about Jesus, His love, His Word, and what it means to walk with Him.

I believe one of the most beautiful ways we can disciple children is through stories.

Stephanie Maurer
Founder, Nurturing Narratives

For fourteen years, I homeschooled my children, creating a home where learning, faith, and everyday life were woven together. Those years taught me many things — not only about teaching children, but about motherhood, faith, and the importance of the words and experiences we place in a child’s heart.

I always wanted to nurture my children’s hearts and lead them toward Jesus, but I didn’t always know what that looked like in everyday life.

If I’m honest, I didn’t always feel like I was doing this right. There were seasons where I looked at other moms and felt like they had it all figured out — patient, put-together, flourishing — while I felt stuck, unsure if I was getting any of it right. I wanted so badly not to compare myself, but some days it was hard not to.

Looking back now, I see that:

To keep showing up, keep pointing my children to Him, even on the days I felt like I was falling short.

That’s part of why Nurturing Narratives exists: not because I had it all figured out, but because I know what it’s like to feel like you don’t, and I want other moms to know they aren’t alone in that.

Over the years, I’ve come to understand more deeply how intentional conversations, meaningful stories, and simple moments of connection can help shape a child’s heart.

As I entered this new season of grandmotherhood, I found myself thinking deeply about the kind of stories, conversations, and moments that can shape a child’s heart. Becoming a grandmother gave me a fresh perspective on something that had mattered to me for years — helping children know Jesus and understand His truth in ways they can carry with them.

My grandchildren became a special part of that inspiration. As I thought about the stories I wanted to share with them, I began imagining books that could do more than tell a story. I wanted to create stories that could help open conversations about Jesus, faith, and the things that matter most. That desire became the beginning of Nurturing Narratives.

I create stories designed not only to be read, but to open the door to conversation, connection, and faith. My hope is that each story will give parents and children a meaningful moment together — a moment to talk about Jesus, ask questions, share what is in their hearts, and discover how God’s truth applies to their everyday lives.

My prayer is that Nurturing Narratives will help families use those moments intentionally — to plant seeds of faith that grow deep roots and continue to bear fruit throughout a child’s life.
